Expert Opinions
Dr. Shivaram K. V., Cataract and Refractive Surgeon and Founder of MM Joshi Ganesh Nethralaya, one of the Chief
Guests, mentioned that outdoor games have a very positive impact on eye health, especially Throwball. He noted that
this initiative is a pilot study that has shown very encouraging results, but further observation over 6–12 months with a
controlled study would provide deeper insights.
He encouraged everyone to play outdoor games for at least 30 minutes daily, emphasizing that this program is not just a
closing ceremony but the beginning of a long-term health movement. He also highlighted that sports help improve
Intellectual Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ), Social Quotient (SQ), and Health Quotient (HQ), all of which are
essential for a balanced life.
Dr. Shashibhushan Hegde, President of Shikshana Prasarak Samithi, stated that this may be one of the first initiatives
where a sport is being studied for its potential role in improving health conditions. While many sports focus mainly on
competition and general fitness, Throwball initiatives are exploring broader health benefits for society, including children,
middle-aged individuals, senior citizens, people with intellectual disabilities, individuals dealing with addiction, appreciated the efforts of the International Throwball Federation and Mrs. Sampoorna Hegde and her team, who are
working at the grassroots level while also reaching out to the International Olympic Committee for inclusion of
Throwball in the Olympics. He wished them success in all their initiatives and their Olympic dream.
Mrs. Nuthana Doshetty, Assistant Director at Akashvani, Bengaluru, and a former student of SRGHM Girls High School,
emphasized the importance of the overall development of children through sports and academics. She noted that in
today’s competitive environment, parents often prioritize academic marks while neglecting sports. She encouraged
parents and students to include Throwball and other outdoor games in their routine for physical, mental, and social wellbeing.
