Freedom Must Be Protected by Every Generation: Dr. Mohammed Waheed Hassan


BENGALURU: Freedom must never be taken for granted and every generation has a responsibility to protect it, former The Republic of Maldives President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan said while addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations organised by Garden City University (GCU) at its Student Knowledge Park main campus in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Dr Waheed Hassan, who was the chief guest at the celebrations, recalled the sacrifices of countless Indians who fought against British imperialism and colonial rule, describing Independence Day as both a celebration of freedom and a remembrance of those who made it possible.

“Freedom should never be taken for granted. It is not simple; we have to protect it,” he said, stressing that justice, equality and political freedom must be upheld irrespective of class or creed.


The former Maldivian president said India’s Independence had long served as an inspiration to the Maldives, which became independent in 1965. He urged students and young people to understand the value of freedom and contribute towards preserving democratic values and social harmony.


The celebrations at GCU brought together students, faculty members and senior university officials. GCU Chancellor Dr Joseph V.G. said Independence Day should remind the younger generation of both the sacrifices of the past and the responsibilities that come with freedom.


“Independence is not merely a day of celebration; it is also a reminder of the responsibility we carry towards society and the nation,” he said, urging youngsters to recognise the opportunities before them and “determine to rise” to the occasion.


As part of the celebrations, GCU also organised a Freshers’ Marathon, with newly admitted students taking part enthusiastically. Students and faculty members participated in the event, adding a spirit of energy and camaraderie to the Independence Day programme.

The marathon was aimed at encouraging fitness, participation and interaction among students while marking the national occasion. 

The participation of freshers and faculty members also highlighted the university’s emphasis on community engagement and student involvement beyond the classroom.

The programme was attended by Dr Christo Joseph, Director of Strategy and Planning; Registrar Dr Sheeja M.S.;IQAC , NCC Officer Major Vishnu, IQAC Director Dr. Preethi Rajesh, Academic Dean Dr Biju Dharmapaln; students; faculty members and other members of the university community.

The event concluded with a renewed call to the younger generation to value the freedoms secured through the sacrifices of earlier generations and to uphold the principles of equality, justice and democratic participation.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆ.ಎಸ್.ಆರ್.ಟಿ.ಸಿ. ನೌಕರರ ಸಂಘದ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿ ಹಮ್ಮಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.  ಈ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಹೆಚ್. ಆರ್. ಜಗದೀಶ್ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.  ಕೆ.ಎಸ್.ಆರ್.ಟಿ.ಸಿ. ನಿಗಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಚಾಲಕ, ಚಾಲಕ ಕಂ ನಿರ್ವಾಹಕ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಹ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲು ಘಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಯೋಜನೆ ಮಾಡದೆ ವಿಳಂಬ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಸಮಾಧಾನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.     ಈ ಮೇಲ್ಕಂಡ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ, ಕೆ.ಎಸ್.ಆರ್.ಟಿ.ಸಿ. ನಿಗಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಚಾಲಕ, ಚಾಲಕ ಕಂ ನಿರ್ವಾಹಕ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳಿಗೆ ದಿನಾಂಕ: 14.02.2020 ರಂದು ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ಜಾಹಿರಾತು ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ: 01/2020 ಈ ಮೂಲಕ 2545 ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಜಿಯನ್ನು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ನಂತರ ಈ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳಿಗೆ 2545 ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ 2000 ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಘಟಕಗಳಿಗೆ ನಿಯೋಜನೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು, ಉಳಿದ 545 ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ಆದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡದೆ ವಿಳಂಬ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಇದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ನಾವು ಮಾನ್ಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾರಿಗೆ ಸಚಿವರಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೆ.ಎಸ್.ಆರ್.ಟಿ.ಸಿ. ನಿಗಮ ಮಂಡಳಿಗೂ ಸಹ ನೂರಾರು ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮನವಿ ಪತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಆದರೂ ಸಹ ಮೇಲ್ಕಂಡ 545 ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ಆದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡದೆ ವಿಳ...
